Welcome to our Airstream blog! We've been meaning to start this up since we began living in our Airstream full-time in June 2012, but we haven't managed to get around to it until now. Life, right?
We live in Kitsap County, Washington, a 35-minute ferry ride from downtown Seattle. Shannon (Badger) is in the Coast Guard, currently stationed in Seattle, and Kate (Mushy or Mushroom) runs her business out of the Airstream (she's a cartographer, editor, writer, web designer, et cetera). Because of Badger's job, we move around a lot, and buying a house always seems too risky a proposition given that we never know exactly how long we'll be in any given region (most Coast Guard families move every three or four years, but often earlier if the member is promoted or if his or her skills are needed elsewhere). Also, Badger regularly goes away for extended periods of time—weeks or months at a time, usually with little notice—and while he is gone, Mushroom travels; if she has an Internet connection she can work. Sweet! So, instead of renting yet another house (we've had both amazing luck and crappy experiences), we decided to try something totally different: We bought a 2008 Airstream and a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500; sold off, donated, or gave away room after room of stuff; arranged a storage unit; and moved into our rig. Crazy? Or the coolest thing we've ever done? So far it's been eight months and we LOVE it! Every day we feel excited about our choices.
Mostly, however, we assume that this experiment in sharing our Airstream Adventures with the larger world will be about cooking and eating in our new aluminum home, but we also imagine supplying information about or favorite local restaurants and cafes, too. We've been stationed in the Greater Seattle Area since June of 2010 so we have a lot of opinions/suggestions/thoughts about the local fare.
Well, that certainly was long-winded ... these posts may yet get the best of us. We'll tell you more about everything as the days and weeks slip by.
